A New Milestone for Quinn Ewers

NFTs have rested well in the lockers of our hearts since their exponential boom in 2021. From average enthusiasts to famous celebrities, digital tokens have caught everyone’s eye in the wake of digitalization. Recently a Texas Longhorns quarterback, Quinn Ewers, had announced a collaboration with Metabilia, an Nft tržište. 

The deal will reportedly pay 1 Million USD in compensation on top of half of the revenue share in 12 payments across the year. With this, Ewers’ total name, image and likeness (NIL) compensation has reached around 4 Million USD mark. According to an NIL technology company, an agreement pays 2446 USD to a Quarterback, 1960 USD to a Running Back, 1436 USD to a Receiver, and more. Interestingly, Specialists get the lowest share of 388 USD.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) cleared the college athletes to earn from NIL in June 2021. According to the released document, they can monetize their activities including sponsored appearances, social media posts, non-fungible tokens and more. Quinn Ewers expressed his excitement in an interview with Austin-based NBC affiliate channel. He said that “They are finally getting paid for their hard work.”

American Football on Top of The Charts

According to an NIL tech firm’s data, top sports by NIL compensation remains Football (49.6%) followed by Men’s Basketball (18.9%), Women’s Basketball (12.6%), Women’s Volleyball (2.5%). Baseball and Women’s Gymnastics have increased nominally to reach 1.5% and 1.4% respectively.

Football remains on top by concerning the NIL activities by sports accounting for 36.8% activities. Men’s Basketball (7.7%), Women’s Volleyball (6.4%), Baseball (5.3%) remains the rest. Social media posts lingers as the most compensating activity with 52.9% followed by other activities (34.1%), shoutouts (8.5%), appearances (3.9%) and autographs (0.9%).

Similarly, social media posts account for the majority of NIL compensation to the athletes with 40.7% followed by other activities (39%), appearance (16.7%), shoutouts (6.8%), and autographs (2.7%)

NFTs are slowly making their way in different industries. Sports sector can benefit from that as tokens can offer several benefits including VIP videos, access to player cam during the game, behind the scenes conversations in locker rooms, and more. Tom Brady, the NFL hall of famer, released his digital collectible dubbed Huddle during September 2022.

Non-fungible tokens were considered as images persisting on blockchain. But the emerging use cases have shut the mouths of Nft critics globally.
